“We are all to be shaped by the fateful course we take in life,” reads a quote from author Louise Erdrich from her 2014 novel, The Round House. Erdrich’s eponymous title chronicled a mother’s determined quest to find her own identity and sanity after her teen son and daughter are murdered. She rediscovered her own identity in writing the book. Thirty years after it was published, Erdrich will headline an event hosted by Writers on Being, an initiative within the magazine New Inquiry, to discuss her work.

Erdrich has won multiple awards for her work. She has won the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the American Book Award, among other accolades. Since this year marks the publication of her 12th novel, Winter is Here, Erdrich is poised to receive her fifteenth.
